Central relief materials reserve put into use in Lhasa

July 28, 2016 -- According to the Civil Affairs Department of Tibet Autonomous Region, the central relief materials reserve has recently been put into use in Lhasa, which has the largest capacity, diversified material variety, and modern management method. The reserve will greatly improve Tibet‘s material reserve ability and disaster response ability, as well as ease the disaster relief pressure.
 
Sonam Drakpa,  director of the Tibet Relief Materials Reserve Center, with an investment of 52.6 million yuan, the central relief materials reserve in Lhasa covers an area of 55 mu. At present, there are 270,000 pieces of  relief materials such as tents, quilt, coats and so on.
 
The reserve is an important part of the central  relief materials reserve system. It is close to the Lhasa West Freight Station. In case of disaster, relief materials can be transported to disaster areas in a short time through ways of railway and highway, which can effectively expand relief areas, speed up disaster response, and improve emergency response capacity.
 
There are many serious natural disasters such as earthquake, debris flow, landslide, and snow disaster in Tibet. To guarantee people’s basic life, Tibet will strengthen the construction of relief materials reserves at all levels.
