934 Culture Heritage Sites in Tibet's Lhasa

Feb. 9, 2017 -- In recent years, Lhasa has protected national traditional culture and developed modern culture industry, ushering in a new era of cultural protection and development. According to the Lhasa Culture Bureau, some 100 Cultural Relics Protection Units in Lhasa, capital of southwest China’s Tibet Autonomous Region, have been maintained. Four-level cultural heritage protection system was established. Thangka, Tibetan Opera, folk songs and dances and other traditional art received retrievable protection. 13 intangible culture heritage bases were built. Some endangered traditional cultures were refreshed.
 
At the moment, there are 934 Culture Heritage Sites and 152 intangible culture heritage items in Lhasa. One national historical and cultural street--Barkhor Street, one national historical and cultural village and one China‘s folk cultural art town also are located in Lhasa. Besides, there are three World Culture Heritages (Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple and Norbulingka). With 20 state intangible heritage culture items and 289 county-level Cultural Relics Protection Units, Lhasa has 181 representative inheritors of intangible heritage culture.
 
At the end of 2015, Lhasa held the second Shangshung Culture seminar, providing a large number of literature and results for studying Lhasa's history and culture. It also promotes the development of culture industry.
