Dec. 21, 2016 -- 59 Tibetan ancient books, out of 495 applied, have been included in the 5th batch of the Catalog of National Rare Books of China.
Throughout this year, the Ancient Book Protection Center of Tibet has been conducting a comprehensive census, registration and conservation of ancient books.
It finished census and digital processing of ancient books in Shigatse, and backed up files in Shannan, Lhasa, Nyingchi, etc.
"In 2016, the Ancient Book Protection Center of Tibet pushed forward census and registration of ancient books in 6 key agencies, including Sakya Monastery, Drepung Monastery, Potala Palace, Norbulingka, Tibet Museum, Tibet Archives. It also completed classification and digitization in Potala Palace, Norbulingka, Drepung Monastery," said Bianbacireng, deputy director of Tibet Library.
"A total of more than 2,300 ancient books were registered and photographed across the whole region. In Kading Monastery, Shannan, 400 rare books were found," added Bianbacireng.
The Catalog of Ancient Books in Ngari Prefecture and Catalog of Ancient Books in Nagqu Prefecture will be published early next year.
