Lhasa River Basin declares national cultural protection experimental area

Aug. 25, 2016 -- Recently, the Cultural Department of Tibet Autonomous Region has submitted relative materials to the Ministry of Culture with the aim of declaring Tibetan culture (Lhasa River Basin) as the national cultural protection experimental area.
 
To better protect the natural ecological environment and humanity ecological environment that traditional culture relies on, as well as to promote the intangible cultural heritages protection work, Tibet has striven to declare the national cultural and ecological protection experimental area since 2010.
 
The range of Lhasa River Basin ecological protection experimental area includes 4 counties and 2 districts in Lhasa, namely Maizhokunggar County, Dagze County, Chushui County, Nyemo County, Doilungdeqen District and Chengguan District. According to administrative division, the clustering of intangible cultural heritages and representation of regional characteristics, this area is divided into core region, general region and radiation region. Lhasa old town is the core region, Nyemo County is the radiation region and other counties are the general region. In addition, the total area of the experimental area is 15086 square kilometers. The population is about 500,000, among which there are 31 nationalities including Tibetan, Han, Hui, Bai and Mongol, and Tibetans accounts for 87%.
 
Tibet is rich in cultural resources. At present, there are 4277  cultural heritage sites, over 1000 intangible cultural heritage projects, more than 1000 precious ancient books. What's more, there are 3 world cultural heritages, 2 United Nations human intangible cultural heritage representative works, 55 national key cultural relics protection units, 89 national level  intangible cultural heritage projects, 158 national level precious ancient books, 68 national level intangible cultural heritage inheritors and 391 autonomous region level culture relic protection units.
