Aug.16, 2016 -- Tibet has recently submitted an application to the Ministry of Culture for establishing Lhasa River national eco-cultural preservation area.
Lhasa River, known as “Mother River” of Lhasa, capital of Tibet Autonomous Region embraces colorful Tibetan cultures and various intangible cultural resources. Lhasa River area occupies 15 thousand square kilometers, which is considered as an important birthplace of Tibetan culture.
"Lhasa River area’s culture has been well protected and widely acknowledged by Tibetans, which meets the conditions for national eco-cultural preservation area application," said an official from Tibet’s cultural department.
Tibet started the application process in June, 2010. An application outline and video has been made after extensive inspection and thorough researches.
Since 2015, Tibet has spent one year revising and improving the application materials.
If the application gets approved, Tibet will get a boost in environment protection and traditional culture preservation.
