April 26,2020 -- Last May, 17 students from the Medical School of Tibet University came to Peking University Shougang Hospital to have a 48-week internship. During the internship which will end by the end of April this year, the most exciting thing is that they received President Xi’s letter. In the letter, Xi appreciates their dedication to Tibet’s medical care, encourages them to hone skills to serve grassroots people and sends his New Year wishes to all Tibetan people.

Thanks to the Plan of Pairing-up Support to Universities in China’s Western Region, 15-20 students from the Medical School of Tibet University have been selected to intern at Peking University Shougang Hospital since 2016.

From being too shy to express their own opinions to answering teachers’ questions confidently and sometimes animating conversations, the interns’ hard work pays off. In terms of clinical trial, Dan Zhen Wand Dui, one of these students, could only watch surgeons perform surgeries at first, but now he can assist doctors in surgeries. Since the outbreak of coronavirus, these students have always wanted to go to the front line, but because of the lack of practical experience, they have to stay at the school to continue their study.

Dan Zhen Wand Dui said that he will go back to his hometown after graduation to serve people there. Inspired and moved many doctors’ stories of fighting against coronavirus, he has gained a deeper understanding of a doctor’s mission and his determination to be a good doctor becomes even stronger.

In the past four years, Peking University Shougang Hospital has trained 77 interns of various ethnicities. After graduation, they work in hospitals across China’s western region to serve people in need.
