More townships and villages linked by asphalt roads in Tibet

Jan.8,2020 -- Southwest China’s Tibet Autonomous Region launched 1,288 rural road projects, among which 720 were completed in 2019. 4,700 kilometers of rural roads have been built and upgraded, with another 22 townships and 669 villages gaining access to asphalt or concrete roads, said Yong Ji, director of the Department of Transportation of Tibet, at the region’s transportation work conference held in Lhasa Monday.
 
So far, 86% of townships and 60% of villages in Tibet have been linked by asphalt roads.
 
Tibet’s fixed-asset investment in road transport reached 45.8 billion yuan last year, with 12.7 billion yuan spent on rural road projects.
 
In 2020, 42 billion yuan of fixed-asset investment in road transport will be achieved and the total highway mileage in Tibet will reach 104,000 kilometers. The region will see to it that all the 697 townships will be linked by roads, said Yong Ji.
