Dec.30,2019 -- Zhang Yaping, a villager from Cangke Village, Zhuoni County, Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, northwest China’s Gansu Province, was recently awarded “Model of Self-strengthening in Gansu Province” and “the Most Beautiful Person in Zhuoni County”.

As a person with disabilities, she had to work ten times harder than normal people to attain the accolades. In 1988, Zhang was born disabled due to improper ways of delivery. The unfair fate made her strong personality. She studied hard and became one of the few secondary vocational school graduates in the village.

In 2015, Zhang returned to her village and started up her own business. She took a loan of 100,000 yuan and contracted 300 acres of land to grow crops such as highland barley and oat. Her hard work paid off after a year with a profit of 60,000 yuan. In the second year, she expanded the range of crops and contracted 500 acres of idle land in the nearby villages, which yielded a profit twice the amount of the former year.

Then, she founded a Specialized Cooperative of Herdsman and mobilized 63 poor villagers to join the Cooperative by the means of land circulation, labor export and capital investment for helping them to shake off poverty. The Cooperative has expanded in recent years and generated a yearly income of 9 million yuan.

Zhang said that she would employ more indigent women and people with disabilities to help them get rid of poverty as soon as possible.
