update:October 10,2019
Oct. 10, 2019 -- The first direct air route between Katmandu, capital of Nepal, and Beijing will be launched by Himalaya Airlines on October 27th, 2019.
The three times a week service will be provided in the daytime, with each flight taking about 4.5 hours.
Himalaya Airlines will also launch direct flights from Nepal to other Chinese cities such as Lhasa, Ali, Shenzhen, Chongqing, Changsha, Nanchang, and Guiyang in the near future, which will bring new opportunities to the countries along the Belt Road and promote Nepal’s tourism development.
Under the Belt and Road Initiative, the airline aims to strengthen communication and exchanges between Nepal and its neighboring countries and in particular build an “air silk road” to boost cultural and business cooperation between China and Nepal.
Himalaya Airlines, a China-Nepal joint-venture company, started its first scheduled flight operations in May 2016. The company has taken 2,513 flights and transported about 657,000 passengers since then. It created more than US$20 million of tax revenue during the past three years. The company has provided charter plane services for the Nepalese premier’s state visit to China and to the Boao Forum.
