The event included a half marathon, a 10km run and a 5 km run, attracting 5,000 marathon enthusiasts from across the country.

 

At 10 a.m., runners started from the Holy Land Paradise Intercontinental Hotel, passed by landmarks including Lhasa Bridge and Binhe Bridge, and finally arrived at the Potala Palace square. 

 

During the race, people from all walks of life in Lhasa cheered for runners along the way, and volunteers provided considerate services at water and energy supply stations. 

 

Ling Huche won the men’s half marathon, hitting the finish line in one hour, 27 minutes and 37 seconds , while Ling Hongying won the women’s title in 1:47:29.

 

“When I crossed the finish line at the Potala Palace square, I saw people cheering for us. I challenged myself and I made it,” Linghu said excitedly. “Lhasa has a great environment and a beautiful scenery. I feel lucky to win a gold medal at the foot of the sacred Potala Palace.”

 

Jointly held by the Chinese Athletics Association and the people’s government of Lhasa, this year’s marathon was upgraded to a Class A event, according to Wang Ning, director of Lhasa’s sports bureau.
