July 31, 2019 -- Since 2017, with its unique environment and rich tourism resources, Gannan Tibet Autonomous Prefecture in northwest China’s Gansu province has promoted vigorously the development of tourism industry within the whole region and implemented related poverty alleviation projects. Based on the principle of highlighting Tibetan characteristics and maintaining original rural styles, the government upgraded and rebuilt the settlements of local farmers and herdsmen, creating about 100 model tourism villages with rich Tibetan cultural features, represented by the village of Zhagana.

Zhagana, known as “stone casket” in Tibetan, is a village in the northwest of Diebu County of Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture. The village enjoys a reputation as a “retreat away from the world”.

There are high mountains and deep valleys, all shrouded in clouds and mists, just like a fairyland. Farmlands, villages and temples provide a striking contrast with the primeval forests and the quaternary glacial landform relics.Various lines of work such as nomadism, farming, hunting and woodcutting match up and complement each other, making Zhagana a role model of harmonious co-existence between human and nature.

The residents here are mostly Tibetans who lead lives of half farming and half nomadism. Here you can see native people’s lifestyle and feel the simplicity and quietness of the primitive Tibetan village. Visitors can take photographs, ride horses, have real Tibetan cuisines and enjoy the beautiful summer of the plateau area.
