NW China’s Gannan speeds up poverty relief

Apr. 16, 2019 -- Over the past five years, Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of northwest China's Gansu province has seen a whopping reduction in the number of people living in poverty, from 171,200 at the end of 2013 to 21,600 at the end of 2018 . A total of 200 poor villages have been lifted out of poverty, according to a press conference held by the government of Gannan in Lanzhou city, capital of Gansu province, on April 12.
Benefiting from ecotourism and stock farming, Gannan achieved a GDP of 15.573 billion yuan in 2018, up 5 percent year-on-year and a growth rate of 4.7 percentage points higher than the previous year, according to Wang Jianjun, vice governor of Gannan.

In recent years, Gannan has promoted the development of an export-oriented economy. Up to now, a number of international trading enterprises have been cultivated and the prefecture has attracted from regions like Hong Kong, Macao, Japan and Singapore 44 investment projects with a total contractual value of 5.55 billion yuan.
