Eco-tourism benefits locals in Nyingchi, SW Tibet

Mar. 25, 2019 -- Bayi District of Nyingchi city in southwest of Tibet Autonomous Region has gained great momentum in economic growth and has won national and provincial recognition.
 
In recent years, Bayi has restructured its industrial pattern with eco-tourism at its core to maintain medium--high growth. In particular, the district focuses on peach flower tourism industry and strawberry cultivation industry.

Thanks to the Peach Flower Tourism and the Culture Festival, the income of local residents has been lifted. According to a local official, the local government, which has invested big in improving its infrastructure to boost tourism, gained a revenue of 2.855 million yuan in 2018.

With the support of local Party Committee-led cooperatives, farmers in Jiuba County, Bayi District now enjoy a much better life. By now, the village boasts of 56 strawberry greenhouses, each of which boosts people’s annual income by over 30,000 yuan on average.
 
In 2018, Bayi prioritized stable and sound growth by focusing on restructuring and transforming the economy. The district’s fiscal revenue climbed 10.05 percent year-on-year to 275 million yuan and the district’s per capita disposable income stood at 17,757 yuan, up 10.4 percent year on year.
