Feb. 13, 2019 -- According to data released by JD.com, a major e-commerce platform in China, Tibet saw a surge in online shopping during the week-long Spring Festival holiday, showing Tibetan people’s growing interest in online shopping.
In recent years, supported by the central government, Tibet has improved its logistics, transportation and telecommunication systems and Tibetan people have enjoyed a higher income. Thanks to the sales and distributions services provided by China’s e-commerce giants, such as Taobao, JD.com and Suning, consumers in Tibet have easier access to online shopping.
In 2018, the retail sales of consumer goods in Tibet Autonomous Region exceeded 50 billion yuan, up by 14 percent compared to last year with a leading growth rate in the nation.
"In 2019, we will make continued efforts to promote 'Internet+logistics', benefiting more people", said Penpa, director of Tibet’s Department of Commerce.
