July 6,2018--The event "Experience western China" kicked off in Miami on Tuesday to help local people know more about China, especially the western part of the country. The event was co-organized by the State Council Information Office of China, the government of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and China's General Consulate in Houston.
With the aim of demonstrating the natural landscape, traditional customs and economic development of west China, the event included a photo exhibition, an exhibition of folk costumes and musical instruments and screenings of three film documentaries.
Jamila Hardemon, a local resident and a teacher, said she was fascinated by the scenery, history, culture and economic development of west China and she can see through this event that China has made great efforts to protect ethnic traditions and culture.
Wang Yanwen, associate inspector of the Department of Human Rights of the State Council Information Office, said the film documentaries tell the unique charm of the culture of west China. She hoped the American people could gain a deeper insight into Chinese culture through the event.
