Sanjiangyuan National Park to be established by 2020

Jan. 19, 2018 -- China will establish Sanjiangyuan National Park and put in place a comprehensive national park system focusing on green development by 2020, according to a plan issued by the National Development and Reform Commission on Wednesday.

By the year 2035, the Sanjiangyuan National Park will become a role model of eco-protection, innovative mechanism and modernization , according to the plan.

Sanjiangyuan literally means the headwaters of the Yangtze, Yellow and Lancang  rivers, which is the most important ecological security defense on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.

The Sanjiangyuan National Park, with a total area of 123,100 square kilometers, covers Kekexili National Nature Reserve and 12 townships in four counties in northwest China’s Qinghai Province.
