Jan. 11, 2018 -- A research project on Tibet’s geoparks which began in 2015 has obtained expected achievements. Undertaken by the region’s geological survey institute, the project has laid a scientific foundation for one of the geoparks to apply for global geopark status. Tibet, with 5 geoparks, is distinctive in terms of geology and geomorphology. The research project can help people better understand the earth and will promote the development of local tourism and economy, said Dorji, the project leader and academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. The project team is to further their study, conduct field surveys and prepare documents, presenting the geoparks on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau to the world. By: Ma Wenhui |
