Jan. 3, 2018 -- The Caoba to Luding section of the Ya’an-Kangding expressway in southwest China’s Sichuan province started trial operation on Wednesday, ending the history of no expressway in Sichuan’s Tibetan areas.

Its trial operation also means all 21 cities or prefectures in Sichuan have been connected with expressways.

With an investment of 23 billion yuan, the four-lane Ya’an-Kangding expressway is 135 kilometers long and 24.5 meters wide.

The trial section will cut the time from Chengdu to Luding County by half to about 2.5 hours.

The completion of the Ya’an-Kangding expressway will improve local transportation and promote economic-social development in Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture.
