Southwest China’s Tibet Autonomous Region has pushed ahead a program to improve nutrition among infants and children between 6 months and 3 years to promote healthy growth, according to local authorities.
As of the end of July, more than 89,000 children 6 months to 36 months old were provided with nutrition packages from the beginning of the year-an effective rate of 74 percent, local media reported.
China has invested nearly 3 billion yuan ($464 million) in establishing 80 centralized nursing centers in Tibet. The extremely poor who are willing to live there are accepted.
Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Wednesday that Tibet has become a vivid portrayal of the progress of China’s democracy and human rights, and an important window for China’s opening-up and cooperation with the world.
