May 26, 2023 -- Modernization often weakens traditional cultures, but Tibetan culture thrives in the modernization process as the Chinese government has made great efforts to maintain and develop those traditions, said Colin Mackerras, recipient of Chinese Government Friendship Award and Order of Australia, at a forum on the development of Tibet Autonomous Region.

 

Mr. Mackerras shared his views on the necessity of learning Chinese for Tibetan people and emphasized the importance of protecting Tibetan language. 

 

Themed "New Era, New Xizang, New Journey: New Chapter in Xizang’s High-quality Development and Human Rights Protection,” the forum was held on May 23, 2023 in Beijing.
