A case study on Sinopec aid programmes to Xizang

On the 4th Central Symposium on Xizang Work by CPC Central Committee in 2001, the Chinese State owned enterprises (hereafter referred to as “SOEs”) joined the Support to Xizang Program through paired assistance. Sinopec has actively responded to the call from the CPC Central Committee, assisted Xizang’s development under the strong leadership of the Party Committee of Xizang Autonomous Region, stepped up organizational efforts, deepened collaboration with the local government and intensified support in human resources, materials, finance, and intelligence. The Company totally invested more than 523 million yuan (USD 76 million) in 165 infrastructure-related projects to assist Xizang and implemented a large number of aid projects for local people’s well-being. “Easyjoy Dolma Spring Water” has been sold to thousands of families. The yak meat deep-processing industry gained momentum. The green PV industry has been improving and upgrading. Kids are reading aloud in the school sponsored by Sinopec in alpine region, which is called “the primary school close to the sky”. The Sinopec Lifeline Express has cured patients on the snowy plateau. 34,000 herdsmen have moved to new homes. All the aforementioned achievements have led to leaps and bounds in the local living environment and standards. In 2018, Sinopec assisted Baingoin County eradicate poverty. In the new era of rural revitalization, Sinopec has been committed to helping the county embark on a new chapter for the benefit of the local well-being and through assistance in the local industry, education and consumption. As a result, the company has been recognized as “the good corporate citizen under the leadership of CPC and for the people”.
