June 17, 2019 -- A group of foreign journalists and experts from nearly 40 countries and regions visited the No.2 Primary School of southeast Tibet’s Nyingchi City on June 10, 2019.

Founded in 1971, the No.2 Primary School of Nyingchi City was formerly known as Tibetan Road Engineering Children School. There are 44 teaching classes, among which 24 are Tibetan language classes. The 1,800 students in the school are of different ethnic minorities such as Han, Tibetan and Hui. With its beautiful teaching buildings, large playgrounds and scattered flowerbeds, the school is even better than those in the more developed parts of China.

The delegates visited and observed the classroom, interacted with the children, tried Tibetan calligraphy, played table tennis and took group photos.
“This is my first time to get to know primary schools in China and also my first time to come to Tibet. The school we visited today looks very good. Students there study with pleasure and teachers are also full of passion,” said Elizabeth Mcleod, CEO of Meridian Line Films in Britain.

In the old times, only children of the noble class can receive education in Tibet. Since the Democratic Reform in Tibet in 1959, Tibet has undergone a historical change from “guaranteeing wider access to education” to “guaranteeing high quality education.” Till now, a modern education system has been set up in Tibet, making sure people of all ethnic minorities enjoy the right to education.

Nyingchi is a prefecture in the lower reaches of the Yarlung Zangbo River. At an average altitude of 3,000 meters above sea level, it is home to Tibetans and several other ethnic minorities.
