Self-immolations against morality of human being: Chairman of TAR
    Date:03-09-2012 Source:tibet.cn Author:

When asked about the recent self-immolations by Tibetan monks, Padma Choling, Chairman of Tibet Autonomous Region, said, "I feel very distressed over the self-immolation of Tibetan monks. Every life is precious, self-immolation goes against Buddhist doctrines. Those who support, instigate and did this act are also against morality and should be severely punished."

"The Chinese government respects freedom of religion and normal religious activities of the Tibetan people. I think human life is the most precious thing, whoever commits self-immolation is wrong and immoral. Everyone enjoys the freedom of speech nowadays, and it is not necessary to take extreme and aggressive behaviour."

The government pays more attention to improve people's livelihood and to develop education. Padma Choling said, cherishing life and people itself are Tibetan Buddhism's doctrine.

When asked about Dalai Lama's competing for Tibetan young generation and monks in Tibet, Padma Choling said, the Dalai Lama is really doing this in Tibet, but it is more important for the local government to improve livelihood and education. "The duty for Tibet Autonomous Region government is to implement well the central government's preferential policies and to improve livelihood and education. I believe, people in Tibet will support the CPC and follow the CPC's socialism way."

He also pointed out that the enrollment rate of Tibetan children of school age is as high as 98 percent.

For those monks and nuns who follow the Dalai Lama, Padma Choling said, monks and nuns are monks and nuns indeed, they are also a part of society, "we should respect them."

Besides, there is news that the University of Tibet was blockaded for maintaining stability. To this, the mayor of Lhasa Dorji Tsedrup said there is no such thing at all.
