The accumulated total state investment of 0.77 bln yuan has been put in Tibet's Natural Grass Protection Project, the project with the largest investment scale in Tibet's Ecological Protective Screen Construction Plan. Notable progress has been made in the improvement of grassland ecological environment in key regions.
According to the Development and Reform Commission of Tibet Autonomous Region, the Natural Grass Protection Project contains two subprojects: Project of Withdrawing Graze and Returning to Grassland, Treatment on Mice, Pests and Poisonous Weeds, which involves 14 stockbreeding counties, 24 semi-farm semi-pasturing counties, 13 severely afflicated areas by mice, pests and poisonous weeds. Up to now, 0.77 billion yuan has been allocated to implement banning grazing on 1.16 million hectares of natural pasture, rest-grazing on 1 million hectares of land, reseeding on 734 thousand hectares of degraded grassland, treatment on mice, pests and poisonous weeds on 12.42 million hectares of land.
"After the Project of Withdrawing Graze and Returning to Grassland was implemented, tremendous changes have taken place in the grass coverage and height of north Tibet's Nagqu Prefecture, with some grass 6 cm higher than before, and notable progress made in the improvement of grassland ecological environment in some key regions." said Zhang Yongze, director of Environmental Protection Department of Tibet Autonomous Region.
In recent years, the Central Government has increased investment on the ecological and environmental protection of Tibet, with the approval of total 15.5 bln yuan investment on "Protection and Construction Plan of Ecological Protective Screen in Tibet"(hereinafter "Plan"). By the end of July this year, 2.93 bln yuan had been put in 10 projects of the "Plan". The construction of these projects are now progressing fairly, which are planned to be completed in 2030.
